Fife NHS Board Candidate - Ken Cochran

I believe that the best healthcare is preventive healthcare and healthy living.  The NHS plays a key role in this by helping people to quit smoking, but it could do more to help reduce obesity and alcohol dependency.  This would not only save money in future medical care costs but even more importantly save lives.  I am particularly eager to help young people avoid the excesses that seem so attractive yet damage their health in the long run.

I believe it is important that the NHS works to improve the quality of life for everyone. I am opposed to any moves which would use the NHS as a means to terminate anyone's life early.  In all of the several cases where I have been close to someone who was terminally ill, good palliative/hospice care has been very effective and retained the person's dignity and comfort.

As a Christian I am not eager to be judgemental of anyone but would hope to help people "live life to the full", regardless of their own personal convictions. My Christian faith informs and guides my principles in wanting to help others.  I serve as a deacon at St Andrews Baptist Church and as secretary to my local community council.
